Until Sunday, July 10, discover in replay on France TV the documentary "The Watchers of the Gospel, Christians in the Algerian War" which focuses on the fight led by anonymous Christians for Algerian independence.
July 1, 2022 marked the 60th anniversary of the self-determination referendum that led to Algeria's independence. On the occasion of this anniversary date, Protestant presence and “Le Jour du Seigneur” co-produced an ecumenical documentary entitled “The Watchers of the Gospel, Christians in the Algerian War”.
This 59-minute documentary directed by Richard Berthollet highlights the commitment of anonymous Christians, Catholics or Protestants, who positioned themselves in favor of Algerian independence, defying the military, colonial and religious authorities of the time.
Their names were Stanislas Hutin, Nelly Forget, André Angsthelm or Marguerite Carbonare, they were missionaries, doctors, teachers, students… In the name of the Gospel, they made a commitment to fight the injustices they had witnessed.
Broadcast on Sunday July 3 on France 2, the documentary is available in replay on France TV until the end of the week.
