The Senate rejects the extension of the deadline for abortion to 14 weeks

On Wednesday, January 20, the Senate rejected the bill aimed at strengthening the right to abortion which had been voted in the National Assembly last October.

La Law proposition (PPL) offeringextend the legal deadline for abortion from 12 to 14 weeks and remove the conscience clause health workers was presented to the Senate on Wednesday, January 20.

The text carried by the deputy Albane Gaillot of the EDS group (Ecology, democracy, solidarity) had been adopted at first reading by the deputies on October 8, 2021. Following a preliminary rejection motion filed by the senatorial majority of the right and the center, the proposal of law was rejected by the Senate without debate or vote.

The text will therefore return to the National Assembly for a second reading.
