Camille's editorial of February 21, 2022: With tenderness and compassion

On the occasion of the inauguration of a colloquium of theologians on the priesthood, Pope Francis developed in a long speech his reflections on what the life of a priest should be today.

If the Argentine pontiff insists on the importance of their intimacy with the Lord, their closeness with their bishop, the other priests and above all the people "who have been entrusted to them", he recalls above all that priests, like Christians in general, must be inspired by the Lord who "looks on with tenderness and compassion".

It is with this same look of "tenderness and compassion" that I invite you to look at the news of the day.

Amid growing fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a BBC interview on Sunday that there was every indication that Russia was preparing"the biggest war in Europe since 1945".

Boris Johnson believes that this conflict, if it took place, would be "bloody and prolonged".

Abducted at 14 in Nigeria, Leah Sharibu is still in the hands of her captors after 4 years in captivity. Let's not forget it!

The news of the day therefore invites us once again to pray with "tenderness and compassion", for Madagascar, for Ukraine and for the young Leah Sharibu.
