North Korea: Canadian pastor sentenced to life forced labor

sentence-pastor-canadian60-year-old Canadian pastor Hyeon Soo Lim was sentenced by the North Korean Supreme Court to forced labor for life. Pastor Hyeon Soo Lim, of South Korean descent, served at the Presbyterian Church in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto in Canada.

IHe had already traveled to North Korea on several occasions for humanitarian trips to orphanages. It was during his last trip that he was arrested and convicted of "conspiring against the state", "spreading defamatory information about the state" and "helping North Koreans to flee".

According to China New, the pastor would have recognized all the facts and demonstrated a "deep repentance". It is not possible to verify the veracity of this information or under what form of pressure these confessions were obtained. North Korea sometimes organizes this type of "public repentance" for foreign nationals in preparation for their release ... but nothing to date says that this will be the case for Pastor Hyeon Soo Lim.
