The large annual spring gathering organized by the evangelical gypsy association Vie et lumière returns in May to Nevoy, in the Loiret department. 20.000 people are expected.
La République du Centre, a regional daily based in Orléans in the Loiret department, reports that after two cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the annual gathering of the gypsy evangelical association Vie et lumière, is returning to the region from May 15 to 22.
An event awaited "with joy" after three years of absence, according to the president of Vie et lumière, Joseph Charpentier.
The Republic of the Center indeed specifies that “it is the first time, since the creation of the evangelical mission in 1952, that the faithful remain deprived, for so long, of the event”.
The pastor, however, indicates that the State has never prevented them from maintaining the gathering, but that the health standards in force "were too difficult to put in place".
Thus, nearly 20.000 people are expected in less than three weeks, "to sing and listen to the word of God" on land in Nevoy which belongs to the association. According to Joseph Charpentier, this is an "estimate", adding that it is difficult to quantify the exact number of people who will come since they do not make a census.
The president of Vie et lumière also recalls that if "this gathering is gypsy", it is open to all.
"It is not only reserved for travellers", insists the pastor who continues by affirming that "the Gospel message is addressed to all men, all women, whatever their nationality or skin color".
