Marlène Schiappa entrusts Miviludes with a mission on the practice of "conversion therapy"

Marlène Schiappa, entrusted to Miviludes, body for the fight against sectarian aberrations, a mission on the "unworthy practice" of conversion therapy.

"Conversion therapy", which aims to reorient the sexuality of the people who participate in it, is a practice that particularly targets homosexual, bisexual or transgender (LGBT +) people, carried out "by third parties or by religious groups".

In one communicated published on September 13, Marlène Schiappa, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, in charge of Citizenship, announced that she had entrusted the body for the fight against sectarian aberrations attached to the Ministry of the Interior, Miviludes, with a mission to end this practice.

This mission, which will be based on several units of the General Directorate of the National Police and the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie, will aim to "quantify", "exemplify" and "clarify" this phenomenon, "by analyzing in particular its dimension of sectarian drift ”. Within a month, Miviludes will have to submit "operational proposals to perfect the means of combating these practices".

“Faced with the upsurge in the phenomenon of sectarian aberrations, we are mobilizing all of our forces and freeing up unprecedented means to protect LGBT + people from the abuse of weakness and subjection. »Declared the minister.

At the beginning of October, a bill "prohibiting practices aimed at modifying a person's sexual orientation or gender identity" tabled by LREM deputy Laurence Vanceunebrock, will also be examined in the National Assembly.
