IVG: A report presented to the National Assembly in favor of extending the deadlines

This Wednesday, September 16, Cécile Muschotti and Marie-Noëlle Battistel gave the delegation of women's rights of the National Assembly an information report on access to abortion (Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy).

MWednesday September 16, 2020 is an inventory of access to abortion in France presented by LREM deputy Cécile Muschotti and PS deputy Marie-Noëlle Battistel in an information report on access to abortion.

The report first recalls the figures for abortion, "stable" figures in France with 224 abortions listed in 300, ie " one in four pregnancies on average ".

To "streamline the course of women wishing to have an abortion performed", the two deputies recommend extending "the time limits for resorting to voluntary termination of pregnancy from twelve to fourteen weeks of pregnancy". In their report, they denounce several obstacles to abortion within the time limit set by law, including a lack of information that "leaves you in awe" and is "responsible for an abortion. waste of time in early pregnancy ”.

The co-carriers also evoke the direct link between this recommendation to extend the deadlines and “the number of practitioners and establishments practicing abortion because the shortage of the offer and the territorial inequalities slow down the care of patients. "A situation which" would lead each year between 3 and 000 women to have their abortion performed abroad ”.

This report complements a bill to extend the legal time limits for access to abortion from 12 to 14 weeks and to remove the conscience clause specific to abortion. It will be presented to the National Assembly the 8 next october by the member of the 11th constituency of Val-de-Marne, Albane Gaillot.

Forty-five after the Veil law, this question divides and is the subject of many political and ethical debates. Already, in May, during the coronavirus crisis and the state of emergency, the Senate voted against extending the period for abortion. An amendment rejected by 156 votes to 143 with 37 abstentions.
