"My name is Maryam, I miss my house in Qaraqosh"

Maryam sang a hymn in front of the camera that moved the whole world. Today she tells us about her life in Erbil.

She family is one of the 120 Christians who fled from DAECH, leaving everything behind, house, work, school… They lived in Qaraqosh in northern Iraq. Qaraqosh was the most important Christian city in Iraq. Attacked by Daesh at the end of June 000, it fell into the hands of the jihadists in August 2014. Christians must then flee or die.

Erbil refugee villageMaryam now lives in the village built for refugees in Irbil by the Christian NGO AED.

I miss my house in Qaraqosh ...
Here we live in caravans, we have everything we need, even running water. But in winter it's horrible because the roads are really muddy.

She attends the Christian school.

I really like studying. What I prefer is the sciences.

Later she would like to be: singer, nun or doctor or maybe all three at the same time!

At school children pray:

I pray to God because he protects us ...
I pray for everyone, for the sick
I pray for those who seek the truth
And I pray for the Islamic State, that one day love takes possession of their hearts

We pray with you Maryam.
