We worry about so many things. Debt, security, time, money, children, health… Sometimes we are even worried to realize how worried we are.
NWe worry so much that sometimes we even lose sleep over it. Marthe was also worried. She worked diligently to honor her host, who was none other than Jesus. His sister Marie had chosen to remain at the feet of Jesus, and to listen to each of his words.
Marthe, occupied with various domestic cares, came up and said: Lord, does it not matter to you that my sister leaves me alone to serve? Tell him to help me. The Lord answered her: Martha, Martha, you are worried and you are agitated for many things. Only one thing is needed. Mary chose the good part, which will not be taken from her.
Luke 10: 40-42
Jesus declared that Mary had chosen the good part. We are often like Marthe. We forget the basics, we forget to stay at Jesus' feet, and we start to worry.
We have a plan, we set an agenda, and when we lose control of events, and things don't go as we planned, we sink into worry and sometimes resentment.
In reality, the problem is not to lose control of events. The problem is forgetting that we are not supposed to be in control. We just have to stay at Jesus' feet with our eyes fixed on him.
May your heart not be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me.
Jean 14: 1
When we know that God is in control, and that it is his plans that are being accomplished and not ours, we experience the same peace and serenity as Martha at Jesus' feet.
Who of you, by worrying, can add a cubit to the length of his life?
Matthew 6: 27
Later in chapter 11 of the Gospel of John, it is written that “Jesus loved Martha, and her sister and Lazarus”. Jesus loved Martha, the worried, the needy. He loved her and he loves all the "Marthe". That is why he encourages them to lay down the burden and rest with him.
When you put your trust in God, he takes care of you better than you can ever.
In vain do you get up in the morning, go to bed late, and eat yourselves the bread of sorrow. He gives so much to his loved ones while they sleep.
Psalm 127: 2
He is the God who provides
Happy are those who place their support in you! They find ready-made paths in their hearts. When they cross the Baca Valley, they transform it into a place full of springs, and the rain also covers it with blessings. Their strength increases as they walk, and they come before God in Zion. Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer! Listen, God of Jacob!
Psalm 84: 6-9
