Confinement: Elected officials write to the president to request the authorization of worship

Friday, October 30, three elected Republicans (LR), sent a letter to Emmanuel Macron. They ask the president to authorize worship during the period of confinement.

Damien Abad, François-Xavier Bellamy and Bruno Retailleau wrote a letter addressed to the president published in Le Figaro last Friday. LR elected officials ask the government "To reconsider the decisions taken and to accept that a secure and controlled exercise of worship be set up".

As part of this second lockdown, the government announced that places of worship would once again be closed to the faithful, except for funeral ceremonies up to the limit of thirty people and for weddings which will be limited to six people.

A measure that the presidents of the LR groups in the Assembly and the Senate, Damien Abad and Bruno Retailleau as well as the president of the French EPP delegation to the European Parliament, François-Xavier Bellamy, regret, affirming that for many French people, worship is "an essential moment".

They defend their point of view by stressing that today "we have all the means so that the authorities on the ground, and in particular the parishes as well as the municipalities, carry out together a strict control of the sanitary conditions which would allow the places of worship. to remain open ”.

The three LR elected officials propose to put in place six “guarantees” for “responsible and appropriate opening of places of worship”.

They suggest, for example, that parishioners register in advance on the Internet, that they sign a document to commit to respecting the sanitary conditions, or that four people guaranteeing the respect of sanitary conditions be appointed by the place of worship. They also envisage that a person approved by the municipality supervises the good performance of the worship, that time slots are defined for the opening of the places to the public and finally, that the faithful present a printed document when they go to a place. of worship.

These proposals have notably received the support of Pierre Cuypers, president of the Christian interparliamentary group which considers “this request legitimate”.
