Car on fire pushed against a church in Rillieux-la-Pape, the mayor denounces "acts of separatism"

“A new stage was reached last night in our town with the fire of a dozen vehicles at La Velette and Les Alagniers, including one which was pushed against the facade of the Saint Pierre Chanel church. [...] These acts are intolerable, unspeakable and revolting, especially since they are gratuitous.”

Lin town of Rillieux-la-Pape, a town in the Lyon metropolitan area, was plagued by scenes of violence on the evening of Saturday, September 3. Several cars were set on fire. One of them was pushed against the facade of Saint Pierre Chanel church.

For the mayor, Alexandre Vincendet, “a new step has been taken”. And he says, “in the face of separatism, we will not submit”.

The mayor evokes a “criminal commando of ten people” and qualifies these acts as “intolerable, unspeakable and revolting”.

“A new step was taken last night in our town with the fire of a dozen vehicles at La Velette and Les Alagniers, including one that was pushed against the facade of the Saint Pierre Chanel church. In a few tens of minutes, a criminal commando of ten people dressed in black and hooded so as not to be recognized by the video protection cameras very quickly went up the Avenue Général Leclerc to the Alagniers by attacking to parked vehicles. Alexandre Vincendet says he has a thought for the people whose vehicles were destroyed, but also for the parishioners, whom he also met, accompanied by the Prefect delegate for Defense and Security, during Sunday mass.
