"God is doing something quite amazing. We never thought in a million years that we could have so many people around the world gathered together in prayer. To be in the top 5 of the App Store is truly amazing. God be praised!"
The Hallow app wants to "help find peace, deepen your relationship with God, and sleep soundly every night." Launched in 2018, it has accumulated millions of downloads in 150 countries. Last year it exceeded 100 million prayers.
During Lent, the app launched its 40 day annual challenge, in imitation of Jesus and his 40-day fast in the desert.
"For forty days He walked through the desert. Thirsty, hungry, weary and tempted by the devil. And He continued His walk until His sacrifice of love for us on the cross. A sacrifice for each of us. between us. Together, as a community around the world, we will pray for 40 days before his crucifixion and resurrection on Easter Sunday. We will journey through the life-changing spiritual classic, The Imitation of Christ, and focus our prayer and meditation on the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and giving."
Several Christian stars are engaged in this challenge. Among them, Mark Wahlberg, Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in the series The Chosen, or Jim caviezel, who embodied Jesus in The Passion of the Christ.
