On Sunday July 3, Nigerian police released an Italian missionary, Fr. Luigi Brena, 64 years old, missionary of Somasco. He had been abducted from Ogunwenyi, Edo State. Informed of the tragedy, the police were able to immediately start looking for him and pursued the kidnappers into the forest. The police then opened fire on the bandits, neutralizing three of them. The others were able to flee, some with injuries, leaving the victim.
A state police statement said, “The Reverend Father was immediately transported to Igbinedion University Hospital, Okada, for medical treatment,” adding, “Meanwhile, intensive patrol in the bush is underway to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers”.
The charity Aid to the Church in Need has announced the release of Father Emmanuel Silas. "Let's not stop supporting his brothers with prayers who are still in the hands of the kidnappers!" “, pleaded the organization.
Una buona notizia. Padre Emmanuel Silas, of the diocese of #Kafanchan, #kaduna, uno dei tre sacerdoti cattolici rapiti in #Nigeria, è stato liberato. Grazie a tutti per la vicinanza e non smettiamo di sostenere con la preghiera i suoi confratelli ancora nelle mani dei rapitori! pic.twitter.com/sXTGFXlWge
