UK organization Christians in Media invites churches across the UK to set aside a special prayer time for the media during their church service on Sunday 30 October.
Christians in Media (Christians in the media editor's note) is a community that brings together Christians working for the media in the United Kingdom.
While according to Reporter without borders 50 journalists and news workers have lost their lives this year and 523 are currently behind bars for simply doing their job, the British organization calls for prayer for the media and those who work in it.
“Love it or hate it, the media plays a vital role in our lives. At best, they give a voice to the voiceless, hold the powerful to account, and shine a light on unjust practices while entertaining and keeping us informed,” Christians in Media points out in Christian today.
“As Christians, we affirm and support the vital role of the media in our society. We promote the highest standards in the media and lend our support to the vast majority of people working in the media in their fight for integrity and truth", continues the group, adding that "from national newspapers to local radio stations, from websites to trade publications, from television networks to blogs, all have a valuable role to play”.
On Sunday's Day of Prayer for the Media, churches in Britain and Northern Ireland are therefore invited to dedicate time in their service to prayer for the country's journalists.
“Never before has it been more important to stand up for truth, integrity and justice in a world crying out for God's love, grace and compassion. »
The group also makes available to churches a video called Truth Tellers and invites churches to pray specifically for: their local, regional, national media as well as members of their congregation who work in this domain.
