"I responded to the pope's call to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing the screenplay for a film about Jesus", he announced before adding, "and I I'm about to start doing it."

After the Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker Martin Scorsese traveled to Italy. He met Pope Francis in a private audience and then traveled to a conference titled “The Global Aesthetics of the Catholic Imagination” in Rome.

Antonio Spadaro, director of the Jesuit publication La Civiltà Cattolica, which co-organized the conference, testified on Twitter to the meeting between Martin Scorsese and Pope Francis.

After thanking the filmmaker for coming to the conference with his wife and daughter, Antonio Spadaro reported the words of the Pope, who appealed to artists.

"It is your job as poets, storytellers, filmmakers, artists: to give life, to give body, to give voice to all that human beings live, feel, dream, suffer, creating harmony and beauty. .. Will they criticize? Okay, bear the weight of criticism, also try to learn from criticism. But don't stop being original, creative. Don't lose the wonder of being alive ."

During the conference, Martin Scorsese revealed that an upcoming project will be a script about Jesus. "I responded to the pope's call to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing the script for a film about Jesus", he announced before adding, "and I I'm about to start doing it".
