P
Almost 10% of the Icelandic population will be at the Stade de France this evening to sing, with their players, this hymn to the glory of God before starting their quarter-final match against France.

O God of Iceland! O God of Iceland!
We sing your name, your thousand times holy name.
The cohorts of time make you a crown
suns of the endless firmament.
Before you a single day is like a thousand years,
and a thousand years one day, O Lord,
a flower of eternity, on the trembling Iceland,
who worships his God and then dies.
O thousand years of Iceland,
a flower of eternity, on the quivering moor,
who worships his God and then dies.
