"These incidents shocked the entire Christian community in the state, and the sad thing is that the authorities did not bother to help," said a church official.
In India, in the state of Chhattisgarh, Christians were attacked in 20 villages on Sunday December 18. According to International Christian Concern, the attackers are radical Hindu nationalists who blame them for not returning to Hinduism.
Some Christians have been driven from their homes, others from their villages. Others have seen their homes massacred, looted, their property stolen. Still others were assaulted, some had to be treated in hospitals.
“These large-scale violent attacks bring back traumatic memories of the anti-Christian riots in Kandhamal,” says a church official who adds, “These incidents shocked the entire Christian community in the state, and sadly, it is that the authorities have not bothered to help”.
According to Jeff Kings, president of the organization, “Christian persecution has skyrocketed in India since Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party) took power in 2014”.
