"He was trying to force her to renounce her Christian faith, assuring her that he would marry her once she became a Muslim, but she refused to comply with his illegitimate demands."

Last Wednesday, Sunita Masih, a 19-year-old Pakistani Christian, suffered an acid attack. According to the sources of Morning Star News, her Muslim neighbor allegedly threw acid on her as she got off the bus, then fled. John Masih, her uncle, explains that he had already exerted pressure on them to marry him.

"He was trying to force her to renounce her Christian faith, assuring her that he would marry her once she became a Muslim, but she refused to comply with his illegitimate demands. Sunita had informed her siblings of the harassment from Kamran, and they had repeatedly complained to his parents, urging them to stop him, but it didn't work."

On her hospital bed, Sunita was able to speak to the police.

"My eyes, face, arms and legs started burning as soon as Kamran threw the acid at me. The pain was so excruciating that I collapsed on the road."

The police were able to arrest the suspect. Placed in pre-trial detention, he confessed. “We secured his two-day remand in court during which he confessed to the heinous crime,” Assistant Deputy Inspector Sagheer Ahmed told Morning Star News.

"In his statement, Kamran claimed he fell in love with Sunita and attacked her with acid in retaliation after she rejected his marriage proposal."
