Rolando Alvarez, bishop of the diocese of Matagalpa and Esteli, spoke on Friday in a video posted on Facebook to denounce the harassment of which he is the victim by the police.

“I was followed all day by the Sandinista police, from morning until late at night. At all times, in all the movements I made. »

The priest said he was starting an indefinite hunger strike “until the National Police, through the President or the Vice-President of the Episcopal Conference, only let me know that they will respect my private family circle” .

He asks God to enlighten him and the faithful to join him in this period of fasting.

Rolando Alvarez is one of opposition figures against President Daniel Ortega throughout the 2018 talks between the government and the opposition.
