In Angers, the Sainte-Madeleine church was "savagely vandalized" last April 12. "Several statues were decapitated, crosses broken and the central high altar ransacked", explained the mayor of Angers at the time.
Reached by AFP, the public prosecutor of Angers Eric Bouillard then announced that an investigation had been opened.
In one press release, the latter said yesterday that the investigation was progressing. "On March 30 and then April 12, 2023", the press release reads, "significant damage was committed first in the church of St Pierre in Trélazé, then in the church of the Madeleine in Angers" .

The suspect is known to police and judicial authorities. He was hospitalized due to psychiatric disorders. Eric Bouillard specifies that he will be heard at the end of his medical treatment.
