After the stoning of Deborah Samuel, a woman accused of blasphemy rescued from the crowd by the police in Nigeria

Questioned by the press, the head of the local police, Abdu Umar, affirmed that this incident is linked to the "tensions" caused by the murder last Thursday of Deborah Samuel Yakubu.

On Thursday, Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a Christian student, was stoned to death, then burned, by dozens of students in Nigeria. On Monday, another woman was accused of blasphemy in the north of the country.

Three residents told Agence France Presse that around 300 people gathered in a neighborhood in the suburbs of Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria, outside the house of a woman they accuse of holding offensive remarks about the Prophet Muhammad on social networks.

The police were able to disperse the crowd without the demonstration being associated with acts of violence. "The police did not arrest anyone, and dispersed the demonstrators by shooting in the air and throwing tear gas canisters," said one of the residents, Abdulkarim Adam.
