Releasing forgiveness towards others or towards ourselves, would relieve our emotional charges, and would offer amazing benefits on our physical and emotional health.
Lstudy conducted by American researchers and published in June 2016 in the Journal of Health Psychology, compared the effects of stress and the ability to forgive, on the mental and physical health of an individual. The researchers studied a sample of 148 young adults, and asked them to answer questionnaires assessing their level of stress and their willingness to forgive.
They then studied the correlations between stress levels, the ability to release forgiveness, and the quality of their physical and emotional health. Analysis of the data found that increased stress levels lead to deterioration in physical and emotional health. This degradation was however limited in people forgiving more easily.
These results would indicate that being inclined to forgive could lessen the impact of stress on our health.
In their conclusions the researchers concluded that,
“Developing a more indulgent lifestyle can help minimize stress-related disorders. "
