Camille's editorial of October 19

Friday October 16, Samuel Paty, professor of history and geography in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, was savagely beheaded on leaving college.

Lreligious fanaticism has once again struck our country. Theassassination came days after the teacher showed his students caricatures of Muhammad in a lesson.

This gesture of incredible violence is deeply shocking and disturbing. In addition, it comes to attack a fundamental value of the French Republic which is the freedom of expression.

Let us never forget that this is an important value, which must be preserved.

It is thanks to freedom of expression that today a political action committee led by Christians can openly oppose the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. Whatever our opinion on the American election campaign or on American politics in general, it deserves to be highlighted.

Because the news is responsible for constantly reminding us of the dramatic repercussions that an attack on freedom can have on a population.

In China in particular, where religious freedom and de facto freedom of expression are increasingly challenged, the noose is tightening around Christians. He is currently there Prohibited from photocopying songs and religious texts on pain of imprisonment. The pastor's story Bob fu, a former pastor of an underground church in China, threatened with death even in his new home in America, is a good example.

May our response to violence, to threats always be love and prayer.

So, pray for persecuted Christians around the world and especially in China, pray for Pastor Bob Fu and his family. Let us also pray for those close to Samuel Paty, let us pray for the teachers, let us pray for the Muslim community and do not fall into stigma. Let us not, in our turn, make the mistake of hate.
