Kabul: a one-and-a-half-ton bomb explodes in the embassy district

At least one murderous attack 90 dead and 400 injured in the Afghan capital, in the heart of a highly secure district, where a number of embassies are located.

MOn Wednesday morning at rush hour, in downtown Kabul, a truck bomb exploded in the diplomatic quarter. A one and a half ton bomb was hidden in a tank truck. The attack left at least 90 dead and 400 injured. The explosion damaged many buildings over several hundred meters. The city center is covered with black smoke.

"It was like an earthquake"

The attack has not been claimed neither by the Taliban nor by the Islamic State.

16 years after the September 11 attacks and the start of Western intervention, "the security situation is at an impasse", according to General John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan.
